The new site is a one-stop resource exclusively for mountainbikers of all ages that offers routes and trails across the UK that can be downloaded either as PDFs (to be printed and taken on the ride) or have the file downloaded for use with portable satellite navigation devices. Both formats are based on official OS 1:50,000 mapping and the routes are colour-coded according to IMBA trail grading recommendations – green, blue, red and black – and new routes are being added all the time.

All SYHA members are being offered a 20% discount on the cost of route downloads, which are available at the discounted price of £12 for 24 routes or £2.80 per individual route download. The routes are available as PDFs or as GPX files – compatible with most popular makes of personal handheld GPS devices, with other file formats available on request if the GPX file is not compatible with your device.

One of the main points of difference between ukmountainbiker.com and similar sites is that the routes are UK-wide and linked to a comprehensive database containing the details of over 60 hostels across Scotland, Trail Centres, bike shops and refreshments stops, which are all seamlessly incorporated into the individual details of each ride. This gives Scottish YHA members and riders a very detailed set of instructions without the need for separate pre-ride research – especially if the ride is in an unfamiliar area.   

As well as routes the site will have user-generated content – which will be actively encouraged – to include reviews, an area where bikers can comment on routes and submit their own, as well as reviews generated by the team at ukmountainbiker.com on hostel accommodation, bike shops, bikes and kit.
